OFFER OF SATELLITE RECEIVING EQUIPMENT PARLIAMENT

Issued by: SA Communication Service

There has been no agreement between Parliament and M-NET on the offer of satellite dishes and decoders for members of Parliament. The Whips of the political parties in the National Assembly have agreed to accept the offer from M-NET in principle and on condition that Parliament managed the process. The Secretary to Parliament is working out a proposal for such a procedure. This proposal will have to be considered by the political parties.

At a meeting with M-NET, the Speaker requested M-NET to submit a detailed proposal on the depreciated value at which members will have to purchase the equipment if they wish to do so when they cease to be members of Parliament, of the equipment that is to be provided. We are still awaiting receipt of this proposal.
