STATE VISIT TO ANGOLA BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF SOUTH AFRICA, MR NELSON MANDELA, 11-13 JUNE 1996

President Mandela will undertake a three-day State visit to Angola from 11 to 13 June 1996, honouring a long-standing invitation by Angolan President Jose Eduardo Dos Santos. This will be the President's first official State visit to the Republic of Angola.

The purpose of the visit is to foster regional co-operation, sign a bilateral co-operation agreement between the two countries and more importantly to express the South African Government's support the peace process.

During the visit President Mandela is scheduled to address the Angolan National Assembly, meet with members of the UNITA leadership as well as with members of the UNAVEM III Joint Commission charged with the monitoring of the implementation of the Lusaka Protocol. The President will also visit Lubango in the Huila Province where a number of South African firms have invested.
