The North West Government is poised to get a R21m investment from India.

This is the outcome of discussions between Dr K Anji Reddy, an Indian pharmaceutical scientist of Reddy's Laboratories, and NW Premier Popo Molefe. This is the result of an initiative by Prof. Mohale Mahanyele, who brought the two together.

A manufacturing and packaging operation specialising in anti- cancer, asthma and diabetic drugs will be built in the Rustenburg area within the next nine months.

The project has the potential to create 150 new jobs, The company will also offer shares to both labour and doctors in the Province.

"We are investigating a 20 acre piece of land in the North West as the climate in the area is ideal for the manufacture of the drugs," said Prof. Mahanyele. The operation will be well placed to export drugs to other parts of Africa.

"The envisaged transformation of the Mmabatho Airport into a cargo facility, is an ideal development to facilitate exports," said Mr Molefe.

The two delegations agreed to conduct workshops among the North West business community, after which the Premier will lead a delegation to India.
