Issued by: PWV Provincial Government
TOKYO SUPPORTS COSATU.
1. We fully recognise labour's decision to exercise their constitutional right in relation to the pressure they want to bring to bear upon those forces who are resisting labour's position in the process of the drafting of the country's final constitution. 2. We call upon those parties and organisations who have adopted anti-labour positions such as the lock-out clause to reconsider their positions. 3. Under no circumstances can we ever support a constitutional position where workers, in exercising their constitutional right, are locked out from the shop/factory floor. 4. Not even under the harshest conditions of apartheid oppression did the racist constitution have such a clause. 5. A democratic government let alone a democratic constitution can therefore not find itself articulating positions worse than those of an apartheid government.
