AD VALOREM CUSTOMS AND EXCISE DUTY IMPOSED ON CERTAIN MOTOR VEHICLES
On 22 December 1995 AD VALOREM customs and excise duty was imposed on certain motor vehicles.
Since the implementation of this duty, Customs and Excise has received many written and verbal complaints regarding the punitive effect thereof on the more expensive imported motor vehicles.
The position has since been considered and it has been decided that a maximum rate of AD VALOREM customs and excise duty of 20 percent will be implemented with retrospective effect to 22 December 1995.
Importers who have paid AD VALOREM customs duty at a rate in excess of 20 percent may apply for a refund of the duty overpaid at the office of the Controller for Customs and Excise where the duty was paid after the notice has been published in the Government Gazette.
