NATIONAL YOUTH COMMISSION BILL
The adhoc committee on the Youth Commission Bill has received over 60 submissions from individuals, youth and service organizations, across the political and social spectrum. There is an overwhelming support for the establishment of the National Youth Commission.
The adhoc committee is encouraged by this response from individuals and organisations. The submissions emphasis the fact that the Commission should not be a dummy government structure but that it should have teeth -it has to be afforded powers to make a positive contribution to youth development. The Commission is expected to design a national youth policy framework and a national plan to address problems and aspirations of young people.
The adhoc committee values the constructive input received from written submissions and the oral submissions will definitely assist the committee in finalising the youth commission bill.
The Committee is going to conduct oral hearings next week. National Youth Organisations will be making oral submissions from MONDAY THE 11TH IN PARLIAMENT, STARTING AT 09H30 ROOM 454 OLD ASSEMBLY. The offices of Premiers or Provincial structures responsible for Youth affairs will be afforded an opportunity to make oral presentations on Wednesday 13th immediately after the budget speech.
