ALLEGED SPYING ALLEGATIONS INVESTIGATION CONTINUES

CONTINUED INVESTIGATION ON ALLEGATIONS OF SPYING BY THE NIA ON TOP MANAGEMENT OF THE SAPS

The Committee met today to continue the investigation. As the Committee deliberations are determined by Section 2 (7) of the Intelligence Control Act, 1995, the session was a closed one.

The following persons have so far appeared before the Committee:

• Mr D Coetzee - a NIA Officer.
• Superintendent H Moodley - the SAPS Officer who interviewed Mr Coetzee on the G Mxenge case.
• Superintendent G Oosthuizen - the SAPS Officer whose phone was allegedly bugged.
• Mr J Odendaal - a Technical Officer at Telkom Networks and Technology; responsible for technical problems in Mr Oosthuizen's area.
• Commissioner M Baloyi - Provincial Commissioner of the Northern Province who also alleged to have been subjected to illegal surveillance.

The hearings are expected to continue till 20:00 hrs today and to continue tomorrow, 6 March 1996.
