PRESS STATEMENT BY THE TRANSFORMATION FORUM ON CORRECTIONAL SERVICES RE.THE MINISTER OF CORRECTIONAL SERVICE'S TERMINATION OF THE DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONAL SERVICES'S PARTICIPATION IN THE FORUM
The Transformation Forum of Correctional Services has noted the Minister of Correctional Services's sudden decision to terminate the participation of the Department of Correctional Services in the Forum. This announcement came without any previous indication that the Minister was contemplating such a move, and has serious implications for the urgent transformation of the Department of Correctional Services.
It is furthermore noted that the Minister informed the Transformation Forum about his decision, without even informing his own Department's representatives on the Forum in advance. When the Chairperson of the Forum contacted them about the Minister's decision they were totally taken aback.
The Transformation Forum has also noted the unsubstantiated allegations made by the Minister regarding the performance of the Forum. In this regard the Transformation Forum refers the media to a recent press statement by the Transformation Forum (see The Transformation Formation on Correctional Services will meet tomorrow (1 March 1996) in Pretoria. After the meeting Forum will respond further to the actions of the Minister. A press conference will be held at 13:00, at the Pretoria, Garden Court Holiday Inn. A further press alert will be issued tomorrow.
