Issued by: Department of Health
The Department of Health, in cooperation with the Henry J Kaiser Foundation and the SABC launched the multi-media awareness campaign, Bambanani Empilweni, in Johannesburg today.
Bambanani Empilweni which means "Hold Hands for Health" was developed to encourage community participation in developing a caring health service which promotes health through prevention and education.
In order for this goal to be achieved it is hoped that every member of the community become fully involved in the planning, provision and monitoring of health care services.
The campaign will be communicated by means of television, radio and the printed media.
The television programmes are investigative and reality orientated, utilising actual situations and case studies to inform the public with regards to the approach of the Department of Health in improving the availability accessibility and affordability of health services.
Primary and Secondary school children participated in a competition to develop a poster for Bambanani Empilweni. These children are already co-owners of the project. Now, the rest of us need to join hands for health and make Bambanani Empilweni effective.
