The 86 Gauteng Members of the Provincial Legislature (MPLs) will meet today at 14H15 for the second Sitting of the House in the present third legislative year, which opened on Friday 23 February 1996. The Sitting will take place in the new debating Chamber, Selborne Hall, on the first floor at the Legislature Building in Johannesburg.
Premier Sexwale will be asked to give an oral reply to a Question by NP Member and Whip, Mr Derek Christophers, regarding the use of Afrikaans and the official language policy of the Gauteng Government for inter-departmental correspondence. The MEC for Health, Mr Amos Masondo, will reply to a Question by DP Member and Whip, Mr Jack Bloom, with regard to the National Department of Health budget of R14.27 million for the AIDS awareness play, SARAFINA II.
The MEC for Economic Affairs and Finance, Mr Jabu Moleketi, will introduce the Provincial Adjustments Appropriation Bill, which will deliberate on the expenditure and budget of the 1995 legislative year. Tentatively, Mr Moleketi will introduce this year's budget during a Sitting on 19 March.
Today's Sitting will end with a debate on the Premier's Opening Speech, scheduled to last for 150 minutes, and which will continue at the Sitting on Friday 01 March, when it will be discussed for 360 minutes.
All journalists are invited to attend, and seats will be available in the Media Gallery on the second floor. The Sitting is likely to close at 17H00.
