STATEMENT BY THE MEC FOR SAFETY & SECURITY, MS JESSIE DUARTE
Police have arrested a Tarlton farmer and six of his workers for the alleged gang-rape of a woman earlier this week.
The woman told police that the farmer has instructed the six workers to gang-rape her because she took some peaches from the farmer's stall.
The farmer and his workers are being held in custody, and will be charged early next week. They have not been granted bail.
The woman involved has received medical treatment and will be counselled by trained professionals.
Reports of this nature have been received from other farms in the Tarlton area near Magaliesberg, and I have asked officials from my office to monitor this case to ensure that it is dealt with properly.
I believe a stern message needs to be sent to farmers that this sort of behaviour will not be tolerated. We will take people head-on if they do this sort of thing.
