STATEMENT BY THE COMMISSION OF INQUIRY INTO THE PROTEIN ENERGY MALNUTRITION SCHEME ON 16 FEBRUARY 1996
The President has appointed a Commission of Inquiry into the Protein Energy Malnutrition (PEM) Scheme on 15 September 1995.
The President has now appointed Regional Magistrate J H Wiegand in the place of the previous Chairman. The members are Prof PMN Kuzwayo and Adv NR Rathidili.
The Commission's terms of reference are to specifically investigate the allocation of contracts, the spending of money on those contracts and the supervision of the PEM and other related schemes.
Interested parties / people who have any knowledge of irregularities taking place in the allocation of contracts or the spending of money thereon or of any mismanagement regarding the PEM or other related schemes, are requested to submit relevant written representations to the Commission before 30 March 1996. Please who would prefer to give oral evidence before the Commission must inform the Secretary of the Commission, Mr JH van Gass of their willingness to do so before 15 April 1996 at the following contact number and address:
