GOOD PROGRESS MADE AT SA-MOZAMBIQUE AGRICULTURAL NEGOTIATIONS

Good progress was made on Tuesday, February 13, 1996 when the South African and Mozambican government delegations met in Maputo on agricultural co-operation between the two countries.

Representing South Africa at the talks were Agriculture Minister Dr Kraai van Niekerk, Deputy Minister Mrs Thoko Didiza, Freedom Front leader General Constand Viljoen and senior government officials.

Discussions with the Mozambican Minister of Agriculture Mr Carlos Agostinho do Rosario, centred around a protocol on co-operation between the South African and Mozambican agriculture ministries, on technical, scientific and human resource development, including the facilitation on the establishment of South African farmers in Mozambique.

The reciprocal protection of investment between South Africa and Mozambique is also being explored.

Both parties expressed hope that the agreement would soon be signed by the two governments.
