NEWS MEDIA STATEMENT BY THE NATIONAL COMMISSIONER OF THE SOUTH AFRICAN POLICE SERVICE, COMMISSIONER GEORGE FIVAZ: PRETORIA: 13 FEBRUARY 1996

FURTHER ARRESTS BY THE SPECIAL INVESTIGATION TEAM IN PORT SHEPSTONE

Two men were arrested on 1996-02-12 in connection with cases of murder and public violence in the Mvutsini area near Margate. Earlier this month, six other men were arrested in connection with the same cases.

The one accused, Kema Jackson Ngcobo, alias Stica Ndwalane, will appear in court today on a charge of public violence. The second accused, Skhumbuzo Ephraim Shude (33), will also appear in court today on charges of public violence and murder.

The above charges relate to three cases in Mvutshini in which 10 people were killed during December 1995. Investigators are still searching for three suspects in connection with these cases.

The arrests were effected without incident.

I urge the community to continue assisting Director Bushie Engelbrecht's Special Investigation Team as it is imperative that all the cases be solved as speedily as possible.
