MINISTER OF FINANCE ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENT OF MR TIMOTHY T THAHANE AS DEPUTY GOVERNOR OF THE SOUTH AFRICAN RESERVE BANK

I am pleased to announce that Mr Timothy T. Thahane will be appointed as a Deputy Governor of the South African Reserve Bank for a period of five years with effect from 1 April 1996.

Mr Thahane will retire from his position of Vice President for United Nations Affairs at the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) in Washington, DC, to become a Deputy Governor of the South African Reserve Bank. His distinguished career in the IBRD commenced in 1974 when he was appointed as Alternate Executive Director for Africa Group I, Subsequently he served as Executive Director, Deputy Chairman and Chairman of the IBRD Group's Joint Audit Committee, Vice President and Secretary of the IBRD and its Affiliates, and, from 1 January 1996, Vice President for United Nations Affairs.
