STATEMENT BY PROFESSOR SIBUSISO BENGU, MINISTER OF EDUCATION
This is to announce that a national conference on transformation in higher education will be held on Friday, February 23, 1996 at CSIR CONFERENCE CENTRE in Pretoria.
This conference is critical in view of the general crises currently taking place in Higher Education and momentous events that are expected to take place during 1996. The purpose of the conference, organised by the Department of Education, is to build consensus and set an agenda for broader transformation in the higher education sector.
A wide range of interested parties will be invited, including university and technikon principals, the College of Education Rector's Association, national tertiary students' organisations and national university staff associations.
Representatives of movements and sectors outside Higher Education sector will also be invited, including trade unions, civic organisations and business.
