Acting Gauteng Premier Mary Metcalfe and the MECs responsible for development planning and housing, Sicelo Shiceka and Dan Mofokeng, will meet with national Land Affairs Minister Derek Hanekom this weekend to discuss a co-ordinated and coherent response to recent land invasions and subsequent evictions by some local authorities in the province.
Mrs Metcalfe discussed the issue with Minister Hanekom today and officials from his department will be in regular contact with the provincial government over next few days to ensure that land invasions and evictions are dealt with in terms of national policy.
The Gauteng provincial government is obviously keen to ensure that national policy is followed at both provincial and local level and will be discussing this in more detail at the weekend.
