MEC TO MEET WITH LENASIA SAPS OVER DEATH OF CPF LEADER
Gauteng's Minister of Safety & Security, Ms Jessie Duarte, will meet with police in Lenasia today to discuss the brutal killing of Mr Enver Essop, chairperson of the Lenasia Community Policing Forum.
Mr Essop was killed while inn pursuit of three suspects after an armed robbery. One of the reasons for Ms Duarte's meeting with the police is to establish why it was a civilian who was involved in the pursuit and not the police.
She expressed shock and dismay at Mr Essop's death. "He was dedicated to the struggle against crime and criminal gangs in Lenasia," she said.
Ms Duarte has directed Provincial Commissioner Sharma Maharaj to intensify the investigation into Mr Essop's murder, and assured the Lenasia community that the Gauteng SAPS will do everything possible to protect them.
