PORTFOLIO COMMITTEE ON JUSTICE (NATIONAL ASSEMBLY) MAGISTRATE'S COURTS AMENDMENT, 1996

It is hereby notified for general information that the Magistrate's Courts Amendment Bill (Amending Section 65 of the Magistrates' Courts Act: Imprisonment for civil indebtedness), 1996 will soon be tabled in Parliament and referred to the Justice Committees for inquiry and report.

The Portfolio Committee once again requests all persons and institutions who wish to submit representations on the subject-matter of the Bill to submit such representations in writing to the committee by not later than 16 February 1996 (if possible 40 copies must be provided). Please note that although it is permissible to make general comments in representations in respect of the Bill, it will be preferable and advisable for representations to be made in the form of specific proposed amendments to the Bill. if any person or institution wishes to address the Committee in respect of such written representations, such a request must be directed to the Committee by not later than 16 February 1996. It must be borne in mind that the Committee reserves the right of affording persons and institutions the opportunity of appearing before it, if it decides to hold public hearings in respect of the Bill.
