MEDIA RELEASE BY THE CHAIRPERSON OF THE MINERAL POLICY PROCESS STEERING COMMITTEE
The tri-partite Mineral Policy Steering Committee responsible for managing the consultative process of reviewing South Africa's minerals and mining policy yesterday approved plans for two public workshops to be held in March.
Consultation which started last year with the mineral industry and the public at large through the release of a Discussion Document in NOvember 1995, will be extended through the hosting of public workshops. These workshops will provide a forum for participants to present their views and be exposed to the wide range of opinions on the best policies that should make up a new mineral and mining policy for South Africa.
All interested parties will be invited to participate in a mineral policy workshop on 1 and 2 March at the CSIR conference centre in Pretoria that will concern itself with public policy issues. A second workshop that will cover legal issues will be held on 19 and 20 March at the Council for Geoscience in Pretoria.
