THE TASK GROUP ON GOVERNMENT COMMUNICATIONS

At the first meeting in Johannesburg today of the ten-person Task Group to investigate Government Communications, administrative issues formed a major part of the agenda.

Mr Mandla Langa was elected as Convenor and together with Ms Val Pauquet, spokesperson for the Task Group.

The independent Task Group was appointed by Deputy President Thabo Mbeki. Secretariat back-up will be seconded from the South African Communications Services. The task group's headquarters will be housed at 66 Smal Street, Johannesburg.

The committee discussed the need for interested parties, government departments and the general public to air their views on the brief given to the Task Group. An appeal for such submissions will be issued in the near future.

The next meeting will be held in Johannesburg on January 29 1996.

The Task Group consists of:
