BAFANA-BAFANA ENDORSES AIDS AWARENESS CAMPAIGN

The South African soccer team, better known as Bafana-Bafana, has agreed to endorse the Department of Health's AIDS Awareness Campaign during the African Nations Cup.

Every member of the team will wear the HIV/AIDS red ribbon at their public appearances.

The Red Ribbon is the international symbol of HIV/AIDS awareness, uniting individuals, organisations and programmes world-wide. It symbolises solidarity with all those who are affected and infected and is worn as a mark of respect for their dignity. It is worn in remembrance of those who have died and to demonstrate caring for those who have been bereaved.

The new AIDS advertising campaign will be screened during all the soccer coverage on television and AIDS awareness advertisements will also be included in all soccer supplements in the printed media.
