MEDIA STATEMENT
PUBLIC SAFETY MEASURES IN TEMBISA
The Gauteng Ministry of Safety and Security has received numerous calls from residents of Tembisa who fear that the New Year weekend could be marred by the kind of criminal violence which claimed the lives of three police reservists during the Christmas weekend. Two more reservists were injured in this orchestrated spate of attacks.
Senior police officials have assured the Ministry that every possible measure will be taken to ensure the safety of Tembisa residents during the long weekend.
The Internal Stability Unit will be deployed to patrol the township throughout the weekend in an effort to deter criminal action.
The Murder and Robbery Unit will continue to work at full capacity despite the public holidays.
And the fact that police have already made two arrests in connection with last weekend's fatal attacks should also act as a deterrent to anyone considering pursuing this campaign of murder.
