Issued by: Gauteng Provincial Government
We are all horrified by the brutal murder of Mrs Rebecca Mthimkhulu and her daughter Gugu.
Once again, the hand of the worst form of criminals has struck deep in the home of one of our families - a vile act that affects all South Africans, committed by the lowest scum that lingers in the shadows of society.
The Mthimkhulu family has been deprived of both mother and daughter during this time when all are preparing for the joys of the festive season.
Somebody out there has the blood of th Mthimkhulu family on their hands. Somebody out there knows who pulled the trigger. Somebody out there knows what happened to the car. Somebody also knows who the murderous hijackers are. We call upon our communities to come forward and assist the law enforcement agencies to apprehend the hijackers, the guntoters, and to create a situation where such cowards will find no place to hide.
Do your country and your community a favour: turn in the killers.
The Gauteng Government shall continue to strive to rid our province and country of all forms of criminality - particularly during the forthcoming festive season, which is a period of peace, of rest, of reconciliation and friendship, and of family reunion. During this period, we shall pause to remember the sorrows of the Mthimkhulus and many others who have lost their loved ones.
