MEDIA STATEMENT
The last Sitting of the House in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature, and closing of the 1995 Legislative Year, will be on FRIDAY 08 DECEMBER AT 10H00 IN THE AUDITORIUM, on the first floor at the City Hall (Gauteng Legislature).
Political journalists are invited to attend the Sitting tomorrow, as well as the End-Of-Year informal luncheon that will be hosted on the same day by The Speaker, Mr Trevor Fowler, at 12h00 in the Public for closing, pupils of a Johannesburg Lower Primary School, will sing the National Anthem. Present at the luncheon will be Members of the Provincial Legislature; Guests invited by The Speaker, the Provincial Secretary, and Heads of Departments; as well as members of staff.
During the Sitting, Members will hold a 30 minute debate on the execution of the Ogoni activists by the Nigerian Provisional Ruling Council. Also, motions on the following three issues are to be considered:- 1. Establishment of the Legislature Management Board; 2. The Parliamentary Association of Gauteng; and 3. Death and disability benefits for elected representatives.
Journalists are requested to produce Legislature media access cards, or alternatively, their personal media identity cards at the President Street entrance.
The next Legislative Year will begin on 23 March 1996, where the Premier will present his official Opening Speech.
