PRESS STATEMENT BY THE MINISTRY OF JUSTICE REGARDING THE APPOINTMENT OF MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH AFRICAN LAW COMMISSION
At the last Cabinet meeting, the appointment of the following members of the SA Law Commission was approved. The appointments take place in terms of the SA Law Commission Act, 1973.
Justice Ismail Mohamed, Chair Justice P. Olivier, Vice-Chair Advocate Jeremy J Gauntlett SC, member of the Cape Bar Mr Phineas Mojapelo, Attorney Justice Yvonne Mokgoro, Judge of the Constitutional Court Professor Thandanbantu Nhlapo, Law Faculty, University of Cape Town Ms Zubeida Seedat, Attorney
If the need arises, additional members may be appointed at a later stage.
The Minister of Justice, Mr Dullah Omar is very appreciative of the valuable contributions made by past members of the Law Commission, particularly in the field of legal reform. He hopes that there will be a transitional period during which the outgoing members will work with the new members so that this important work can continue without interruption. The Law Commission is a key institution in our Justice System and will continue to provide a key research base for legislation and other legal matters in the future.
