The Gauteng Ministry of Local Government and Housing has appointed two Consultants namely Paint Semenya and Associates; and Makhetha Development consultants to conduct and internal investigation to th cause of problems leading to the collapse of essential services in Diepsloot. It is a grave concern of this department that such a lot of money has been spent to install these services that do not serve the purpose for which their were intended. The amount of money spent on installing these services does not warrant their current condition.
It has been reported that geological problems experienced in the area resulting in toilet systems collapse, and water reticulation mains being damaged has caused untold misery to the people of the area and the taxpayers at large. The setting up this infrastructure cost the tax payer R19 million during the era of the former Transvaal Provincial Administration. The collapse of the system resulted in the ratepayers of the Greater Johannesburg TMC having to dig deeper into their pockets to sustain a R108,00- per annum to ensure that the residents of the area have water on daily basis.
The R19 million spent by former TPA to install essential services has just been thrown into the drain. The two consulting companies employed to investigate this situation will also look in to how the R19 million was spent. If any wrong doing is found, the law will have to be used in its fullest contest to punish those who were involved.
