MEDIA RELEASE BY THE CHAIRMAN OF THE MINERALS POLICY PROCESS STEERING COMMITTEE
During its second meeting in Johannesburg yesterday, the Steering Committee approved the release of a Discussion Document on a Minerals and Mining Policy for South Africa. This forms part of a consultative process which was agreed to at a public meeting on 29 September 1995 and which will lead to the publication of a White Paper in October next year.
The Discussion Document will be distributed for comment to a wide range of stakeholders and interested and affected parties, but will also be available to the general public. Copies can be obtained free of charge from the Minerals Bureau in Johannesburg as from 15 November 1995. The document will also be available from all offices of the Department of Mineral and Energy Affairs and from selected offices of the National Union of Mineworkers as from 22 November 1995.

The deadline for submission of comments is 15 January 1996. Details on how to make submissions are contained in the Discussion Document and will be further discussed at a public meeting scheduled for 6 December 1995 at 09:00 in the Auditorium, Council for Geoscience, 280 Pretoria Street, Silverton, Pretoria.
