LAUNCH OF THE WORKING DRAFT OF THE NEW CONSTITUTION
Following a meeting of the Constitutional Committee of the Constitutional Assembly on 9 and 10 November 1995 a working document is being finalised for release to the public.
The Working Draft consists of 15 chapters and contains new proposals in the form of options on the Senate/Council of Provinces and national and provincial legislative and executive competencies.
The Working Draft will be launched as follows:
On 22 November 1995 the Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson of the Constitutional Assembly will brief members of the press and diplomatic corps.
On 26 November 1995 a 32 page tabloid edition of the Constitutional Assembly's publication Constitutional Talk containing the Working Draft and explanatory articles and graphics will be available in Sunday newspapers. On 27 November 1995 this publication will appear as an insert in regional newspapers.
The Working Draft is a renewed call by the Constitutional Assembly inviting members of the public to make submissions about what they think should be contained in the Constitution. The publication of the working draft is further evidence of the Constitutional Assembly's commitment to transparency and democracy.
The Constitutional Assembly will convene in mid-January 1996 to resume discussions.
