The final results have been released of the community elections in the Greater Pretoria area. These results - complied after counting was completed in Soshanguve today - show that the ANC is now the majority party in the metropolitan structure, and effectively rules Greater Pretoria.
The ANC won 12 ward seats in the metropolitan council. In addition, it won seven of the PR seats - giving it a total of 19 of the 40 seats on the Greater Pretoria Metropolitan Council.
The nearest rival, the National Party won 9 out of the 18 ward seats in the central substructure, plus five PR seats; this, plus two seats from Centurion gives it a total of 16 seats.
The Freedom Front has won four seats (three wards and on PR) and the Democratic Party one.
The ANC also has a clear majority in terms of voter support in Greater Pretoria: it polled 121 078 votes compared to the National Party's 102 337.
