MEDIA STATEMENT BY MINISTRY OF PROVINCIAL AFFAIRS AND CONSTITUTIONAL DEVELOPMENT
PUBLIC HOLIDAY: 1 NOVEMBER 1995
The Ministry confirms that voting day, 1 November 1995, has been declared a public holiday by proclamation no 95 of 1995 in all provinces except in KwaZulu-Natal.
All registered voters are therefore urged to use the opportunity to cast their votes at their appointed polling stations. Voting will take place from 07:00 until 22:00. The public and all presiding officers should be aware that all voters who have presented themselves at the correct polling stations by 22:00. will have the opportunity to cast their votes, irrespective of how long the process itself may take or how long the voting lines may possibly be. Polling stations will close at 22:00 only for newcomers, and not for voters who are already waiting to cast their votes.
It is also important to note that the elections will only take place on a single day and that there is no possibility for the elections to be extended to 2 November 1995 or that 2 November will also be declared a public holiday.
