Mr John Kgoana Nkadimeng

Mr Nkadimeng (68) was elected as a Member of Parliament in April 1994. He joined the ANC's Central Branch in 1950, whereafter he served as Chairperson of the Wits Local Committee of SACTU. He became a member of the ANC's NEC in 1955. He also represented the ANC in Swaziland, Mocambique and Zambia during the 1970s and was elected General Secretary of SACTU in 1983. He returned to South Africa in 1990.

Mr Nkadimeng is married and has six children.

Mr Victor Jon Zazeraj

Mr Zazeraj (47), a career officer, joined the Department of Foreign Affairs in 1974. He served in Lilongwe and Helsinki before becomin Hills in 1986. He has served as Director in the office of the Minister of Foreign Affairs since April 1994 (He also served in the same capacity in the office of the previous Minister of Fis married and has two children.

Mr Casper Sarel Cilliers Venter

Mr Venter (56) is a career officer with thirty years of experience in the Public Service. He served in Washington DC, Chicago and London, and was appointed media Liaison Officer to the former State President, Mr FW de Klerk, in 1989. He heads the Directorate for South and Central America in the Department of Foreign Affairs.

Mr Venter is married and has three children.

Senator Sipho Sidney Makana

Senator Makana (60) was94 and previously served as the ANC's Chief Representative to Moscow. He served earlier as Administrator to the ANC 's Head Office in Lusaka. Since his return to South Africa he was involved in the ANC's Commission for the Public Service. He is the Chairperson of the Senate Portfolio Committee on Defence, Safety and Security, and Correctional Services, as well as the ad hoc Committee on Intelligence.

Senator Makana is married and has two children.

Senator Carl Henry Werth

Senator Werth (57) has extensive international business experience. He joined the Conservative Party in 1988 and had no formal political affiliation before then. He was a member of the president's Council between 1991 and 1993 and resigned from the Conservative Party in 1994 to join the Freedom Front. He was appointed Senator representing the Gauteng Province in May 1994.

Senator Werth is married and has two children.

Mr Sydney Bafana Kubheka

Mr Kubheka (43) joined the ANC in 1976 and held various positions including that of Regional Treasurer and Deputy ANC Representative in Tanzania, Zimbabwe and Norway. In 1992 he was appointed as the ANC Department of Foreign Affairs' Deputy Training Coordinator.

Mr Kubheka joined the department of Foreign Affairs in August 1994 and serves in the Directorate for the Far East.

Mr Kubheka is not married.

Ms Annette de Kock Joubert

Mr Joubert (49) is a career member of the Department of Foreign Affairs. She joined the Department in 1970 when she left the teaching profession and served as South African Consul-General in Glasgow (UK) from 1988 to 1992. Earlier in her career she also served in London and Canberra.

Ms Joubert is not married.
