The SAPS has successfully cleared the taxi blockade at Johannesburg International, and has reopened access roads to the airport.
A number of people were arrested, and will be processed by the judicial system.
Police cleared the blockade by over 200 vehicles in just over one hour, and we congratulate them on their peaceful resolution of the crisis.
We repeat, however, that it is unacceptable for organisations to resort to this sort of action to convey their grievances. The LTO has inconvenienced large numbers of commuters and travellers, as well as disrupting the transport of goods, the provision of emergency services, and children on their way to school.
