The North West Premier, Mr Popo Molefe says his Province is ready to run joint ventures between foreign investors and local entrepeneurs. Mr Molefe was addressing an Investment summit between Taiwanese Businessmen and their North West counterparts in Sun City today.

He added that the social development programmes under DP offer open-ended opportunities for the manufacture of supply of electrical material, metal and timber-works, bricks, cement, stone, tar and many other articles that are needed in such a massive programme.

"Investment in this province will help kickstart our economy and to get the province on a sustainable human's development programme.

It will help to support small bussiness and create jobs in the rural areas, and support youth development programmes.

In will give urgent and much-needed- relief for our rural poor.

It will help us to inject new life in the economies of neighbouring countries such as Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe and Zambia.

It will open markets for both the Taiwanese business sector and local entrepreneurs.

It will provide a worthy tourist destination" said Mr Molefe.

The North West Premier added that the government strategy is to spread the economic base of the province and create employment is focused on the establishment, the development and support of small, micro and medium enterprises. This reliance on the informal business sector of our economy is informed by the tremendous success this sector had in reviving the economies of the other developed countries. Taiwan being one of them.

The labour absorptive capacity of this sector, in comparison to macro-enterprises, is phenomenal and we are not about to ignore it, the Premier said.

The conference was attended by 43 businessmen from Taiwan led by the Chinese Ambassador to South Africa, Mr Edward Tseng and local businessmen.

The group explored opportunities and joint venture programmes which will at the same time create employment opportunities for the local population.
