NW STATEMENT ON SKWEYIYA COMMISSION INQUIRY REPORT

Issued by: North West Communication Service

PRESS STATEMENT BY THE ACTING PREMIER OF THE NORTH WEST PROVINCE, MR ZACHARIAH TOLO, ON THE PRESENTATION OF THE SKWEYIYA COMMISSION OF INQUIRY REPORT INTO CORRUPTION IN THE FORMER BOPHUTHATSWANA BANTUSTAN:

It is with great pleasure that I accept the report by the Skweyiya Commission into the affairs of the former Bophuthatswana Bantustan.

This is a euphoric moment for me to accept the report. Considering its implications and recommendations. This obviously impacts on the former regime.

I wish to announce hat the povincial cabinet will hold an emergency meeting next week to discuss the recommendations after which we will announce which recommendations we accept.

We view the established from an overwhelming demand from the people in this province as well as nationally and we hope that any findings and recommendations in the report will teach us about the past.

We in the provincial government of national unity committed to clean and efficient governance, guarantee that we have been justified in having such a commission to deal with such issues.

The government has taken note of media calls this week in various editorials for the prosecution of various individuals in the Mangope regime. We view this with the empathy that will be allowed to us once we have studied the report.

We value the fact that this commission has been headed by a man of such unquestionable integrity as Advocate Louis Skweyiya.

We thank all the other members of the Commission
