COMMUNIQUE ON ESTABLISHMENT OF DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS

JOINT COMMUNIQUE ON THE ESTABLISHMENT OF DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS BETWEEN THE SULTANATE OF OMAN AND THE REPUBLIC OF SOUTH AFRICA

The Sultante of Oman and the Republic of South Africa, desirous to enhance the bonds of friendship, have resolved to establish formal relations based on the principle of mutual respect for each other's sovereignty and non-interference in each other's affairs in accordance with the United Nations Charter.

Therefore, both countries have resolved to formalise ties by establishing diplomatic relations at ambassadorial level with effect from 4 October 1995. These relations will be based on the provisions of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961.

The Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of South Africa, in issuing this Joint Communique, look forward to closer co-operation in order to serve the interests of both countries and their people.
