ABDUL SAMAD MINTY (BRANCH : MULTILATERAL AFFAIRS):

Mr Minty (55) holds an MSc (Econ) in International Relations from the University College, London. After leaving South Africa to study in Britain in 1958, he served as honorary secretary of the British Anti-Apartheid Movement from 1962. In 1979. he was appointed director of the World Campaign against Military and Nuclear Collaboration with South Africa, based in Oslo, Norway. Mr Minty has researched and written extensively on foreign and defence policy issues, economic sanctions and the arms embargo.

ANTHONY LE CLERK KGWADU MONGALO (BRANCH : AFRICA):

Mr Mongalo (59) obtained an MSc in chemical engineering in Baku in the former USSR. He served as the chief representative of the African National Congress in Italy (1970 - 1978) and in the former German Democratic Republic (1978 - 1986). As a memberof he ANC's CvilService Unit from 1992, he attended several management courses in Britain, the United States and South Africa. He is currently Chief Director: North Africa and Middle East in the Department of Foreign Affairs.

THUTHUKILE EDY MAZIBUKO (BRANCH : OVERSEAS COUNTRIES : ASIA & MIDDLE EAST):

Ms Mazibuko (40) speaks five languages, including German, and holds a masters degree in philosophy from Karl Marx University, Leipzig. She served as administrative secretary of the ANC Women's Section national secretariat in Lusaka, Zambia and later represented the ANC Women's Section at the Women's International Democratic Federation (WIDF) in Berlin. Ms Mazibuko joined the Department of Foreign Affairs in April 1995 and currently holds the rank of Ambassador.

TEBOGO MAFOLE (BRANCH : OVERSEAS COUNTRIES : EUROPE & AMERICAS):

Mr Mafole (47) holds a BIuris degree and Diploma in Social Science. Between 1980 and 1994, he served at the ANC headquarters in Lusaka and represented the organisation in Cairo, Egypt and at the United Nations in New York (as chief representative). In May 1994, he was appointed Chief Director in the Office of Executive Deputy President Mbeki.

JAN J BOTHA (BRANCH : ADMINISTRATION):

Mr Botha (56) began his career in the civil service with the Department of Forestry in 1958, where he served in various positions for 14 years before joining the Department of Foreign Affairs in 1972 as Departmental Accountant. He was appointed Chief Director for Financial Management in 1989, and was Acting Deputy-Director-General for Administration since August 1994 until his appointment was confirmed in August 1995. Mr Botha holds various diplomas in State Finances and Public Administration.
