President Nelson Mandela has sent a message to the Nigerian Head of State, General Sani Abacha expressing concern at the conviction and sentence of General Olusegun Obasanjo and other personalities involved in the trial which has just been concluded in Nigeria. The President further appealed that clemency be given to the accused.
The President also assured General Abacha of South Africa's continued support for all peaceful efforts to resolve the Nigerian problem.
