Issued by: Ministry of Housing
JULY 17, 1995
Recent articles in two Johannesburg newspapers suggesting shifts in South Africa's national housing policy are without foundation.
The policy endorsed by Cabinet and as enunciated in the Housing White Paper and the Housing Accord signed at Botshabelo last October remains in place.
Minister Sankie Mthembi Nkondo has neither announced a change in policy on incremental housing, nor has she suggested that such a change or any other change to policy was under consideration.
As with any area of endeavour, the government's housing policy will remain sufficiently flexible to respond to specific experiences and evolving circumstances as delivery unfolds. The Minister of Housing will continue to welcome suggestions and discussion aimed at refining existing policy and methods of implementation.
