SOUTH AFRICAN QUALIFICATIONS AUTHORITY (SAQA)

PUBLIC NOTICE BY NSB 10, PHYSICAL, MATHEMATICAL, COMPUTER AND LIFE SCIENCES TO ESTABLISH A STANDARDS GENERATING BODY (SGB) FOR EARTH AND SPACE SCIENCES, AND EARTH RESOURCES MANAGEMENT IN HIGHER EDUCATION AND TRAINING. |
National Standards Body (NSB) 10 - Physical, Mathematical, Computer and Life Sciences - wishes to establish an SGB in the sub-field Earth and Space Sciences, and Earth Resources Management at NQF Levels 5 - 8. The SGB will develop appropriate and specific standards and qualifications for Earth and Space Sciences, and Earth Resources Management learning, with regard to the following: technicians, technologists, analysts, scientists and researchers. Fields covered would range through geology, geophysics, geography, meteorology, climatology, hydrological science, astronomy and planetary science, soil science and mineral resource -management. This list indicates the range but is by no means exhaustive.

- Certificate in Earth Sciences (Level 5),
- Diploma in Earth Sciences (Level 5),
- Bachelor's degree in Earth Sciences (Level 6),
- Master's degree in Earth Sciences (Level 8),
- Doctoral degree in Earth Sciences (Level 8),
- Bachelor of Science (Level 6),
- Bachelor of Science with Honours (Level 7),
- Master of Science (Level 8),
- Doctor of Philosophy (Level 8), and
- Graduate Diploma in Science (Level 7) in accordance with Authority requirements (Regulation 24(1)(a)].
