PUBLIC NOTICE BY NSB 07, HUMAN AND SOCIAL STUDIES, OF AN APPLICATION TO REGISTER AN SGB FOR LIFE SKILLS

NSB 07 has received an application to recognise and register an SGB for Life Skills in the sub-field of People and Human Centred Development for ABET levels 1 - 4 and NQF levels 1 - 5.

PROPOSED BRIEF OF THE SGB

  1. Develop learning pathways for potential standards in the field of Human and Social Studies and specifically the sub-field of People and Human Centred Development aimed at learners and workers. It is anticipated that these standards could form part of a range of different bands on the NQF [Regulation 24 (1) (a)].

  2. Generate the following standards for Life Skills in accordance with Authority requirements for ABET levels and NQF levels 1 - 5. The standards to be generated include Interpersonal Relations, Civil Education, Entrepreneurship, Business Skills and Understanding, and Career Orientation, Self Management, Daily Living, Wellness (including issues relating to sexuality, health and substance abuse), Sensitivity Training in Gender and Race issues, Crime Awareness, Recreation, Social Skills and Transformation Issues in the:-

  1. Recommend the qualifications and standards generated under 1 and 2 above, to the NSB [Regulation 24 (1) (c)].
  2. Recommend criteria for the registration of assessors and moderators or moderating bodies [Regulation 24 (1) (d)].

  3. Liase with any other SGBs and NSBs - within and outside NSB 07, especially the SGB for Psychology - which have vested interests in the subject of Life Skills [Regulation 24 (1) (e)].

  4. Perform such other related functions as may from time to time be delegated by the NSB 07: Human and Social Studies [Regulation 24 (1) (e)].
