SOUTH AFRICAN QUALIFICATIONS AUTHORITY

PUBLIC NOTICE BY NSB 06, MANUFACTURING, ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY, OF AN APPLICATION TO REGISTER AN SGB FOR TELECOMMUNICATIONS

NSB 06 has received an application to recognise and register an SGB for telecommunications

PROPOSED BRIEF OF THE SGB

Develop learning pathways for potential qualifications and unit standards in the sub-field Manufacturing and Assembly from Level 1 through to Level 8 in the areas of:

Subscriber Terminal Technology

Transmission Mediums

Transmission Technology

Switching Technology

[Regulation 24(1)(e)].

Generate the following qualifications in accordance with Authority requirements:

Certificate in Basic Telecommunications (level 2)

Certificate in Telecommunications (level 4)

Diploma in Telecommunications (level 5)

First Degree in Telecommunications Management and Design (level 6)

Masters Degree in Telecommunications Management and Design (level 7)

Doctorate in Telecommunications Management and Design (level 8)

[Regulation 24(1)(a)].

Recommend the standards and qualifications generated under 2, above, to the National Standards Body [Regulation 24(1)(c)].
Recommend criteria for the registration of assessors and moderators or moderating bodies [Regulation 24(1)(d)].
Review these qualifications and unit standards and effect the necessary changes [Regulation 24(1)(b)].
Maintain liaison with other related Standards Generating Bodies in the field [Regulation 24(1)(e)].
Perform such other functions as may from time to time be delegated by the NSB.
