DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORT

NOTICE OF INTENTION TO DECLARE NATIONAL ROUTE 1, PRETORIA TO WARMBATHS AND NATIONAL ROUTE 4 BETWEEN PRETORIA AND THE RSA / BOTSWANA BORDER AS A CONTINUOUS TOLL ROAD AND ERECT TOLL PLAZAS ON THIS TOLL ROAD.

In terms of section 27 (4) (a) of the South African National Roads Agency Limited and National Roads Act, 1998 (Act No. 7 of 1998), the Agency hereby gives notice of its intention to recommend to the Minister of Transport the declaration of the following national road sections as a continuous Toll Road from Pretoria to Warmbaths and from Pretoria to Skilpadshek at the Botswana Border, known as the Platinum Toll Highway:

  1. Sections of the national road known as National Route 1, a section of Section 21 as declared by Government Notice No. 226 of 1979 and amended by Government Notice No.763 of 1993 from a point 1044.75 metres south of the point of intersection of the centre lines of National Route 1 Section 21 and National Route 4 Section 1, being the road commencing on Portion 3 of Scientia 416-JR to the Derdepoort Interchange; a section of Section 21, the whole of Section 22 and a section of Section 23 as declared by Government Notice No. 218 of 1982 being the road between the Derdepoort Interchange and the common cadastral boundary of Vaalboschbult 66-JR and Kalkheuvel 73-JR; a section of Section 23 as declared by Government Notice No. 186 of 1973, being the road between the common cadastral boundary of Vaalboschbult 66-JR and Kalkheuvel 73-JR and the starting point of the "Great North Toll Road" at the Warmbaths Interchange, and

  2. sections of the national road known as National Route 4, Section 12A as declared by Government Notice No.1010 of 1998, being the road between the N1 Section 22 at Doornpoort 295-JR and its intersection with proclaimed road National Route 4 Section 12; a section of Section 12 and the whose of Section 13 as declared by Government Notice No. 1322 of 1989 as National Route 18, being the road between the intersection of National Route 4 Section 12A and National Route 4 Section 12 and the common cadastral boundary of the farms Rietvly 271-JQ and Kraalhoek 269-JQ north-west of Rustenburg; Sections 14, 15 and 16 as declared by Government Notice No. 1010 of 1998, being the road between the common cadastral boundary of the farms Rietvly 271-JQ and Kraalhoek 269-JQ north-west of Rustenburg and Lobatse on the Botswana Border at Skilpadshek,

In terms of section 27 (4) (a) and (b) of the said Act all interested persons, municipalities included, are hereby invited to make written representations, within 30 days from the date of notice, to the South African National Roads Agency Limited on the proposed declaration and position of the toll plazas. The representations in question are to be addressed to the Regional Manager: Northern Region, South African National Roads Agency Limited, Private Bag X17, Lynnwood Ridge, 0040, and can be faxed to (012)348-1680 for the attention of Mr J. P. Nothnagel or Mr W.S. van der Merwe.

In terms of section 27(4)(a)(i) of the said Act the approximate positions of the proposed toll plazas are given on Figure 1 in the Annexure hereto.
