GENERAL NOTICE

Notice 1006 of 2000

SOUTH AFRICAN QUALIFICATIONS AUTHORITY PUBLIC NOTICE BY NSB 08, LAW, MILITARY SCIENCE AND SECURITY, OF THE INTENTION TO REGISTER AN SGB FOR LEGAL EDUCATION AND TRAINING.

National Standards Body (NSB) 08 Law-, Military Science and Security hereby registers an SGB for Legal Education and Training (LET), in the sub-field of Justice in Society, for a period of three years until August 2003.

Brief of the SGB

  1. Review all existing qualifications and standards.
  2. Develop learning pathways for potential qualifications and unit standards in the field of legal education and training including paralegal education and training [Regulation 24 (1) (e)].
  3. Generate the following qualifications and standards in the area of Legal education .find training, in accordance with the Authority requirements, for NQF levels 2 to 8
  4. Recommend qualifications and standards generated under 1 and 2 above, to the N SB [Regulation 24 (1) (c)].
  5. Recommend criteria for the registration of assessors and moderators or moderating bodies [Regulation 24(1) (d)].
  6. Liaison with other SGBs in the sub-field of Justice in Society [Regulation 24 (1)(e)].
  7. Update and review qualifications and standards [Regulation 24 (1) (b)].
  8. Perform such other functions as may from time to time be delegated by NSB 08: Law, Military Science and Security [Regulation 24 (1) (h)].

Boshoff, E Law society of South Africa Law society of South Africa LLB, admitted as an attorney and conveyancer, president of Transvaal law society and was a director of a law firm.
Coertzen, E Committee of Technikon Principals Committee of Technikon Principals LLB, experience in prosecution, was a Deeds controller, experience in lecturing and evaluating legal subjects, President of association of legal aid institutions (AULAI) and Director of Law Clinic
Gamede, S Black lawyers association (BLA) Black lawyers association (BLA) B Ed, LLB, Diploma in Corporate Finance and a diploma in Trial Advocacy, involved in Commercial and Property work, is involved in Research, Human rights issues and Lecturing. He is now the National Executive Director of BLA
Hechter, B Department of Justice Department of Justice: Legal Services branch LLB, Chief Family Advocate for South Africa, is a South African representative in the central authority in international child abduction, was admitted as an advocate in the Pretoria bar, is a member of trustee of the board on streetwise, holds an international accreditation on family and conciliation court.
Immerman, L Midrand University Midrand University LLB, Attorney of the Supreme court, experience in lecturing in labour law, tax law, law of property and succession.
Jaichand, V Lawyers for Human rights Lawyers for Human rights Associate professor of law, and national director
Jagwanth, S University of Cape Town University of Cape Town LLM, Senior Lecturer in administrative Law, Constitutional Law and Gender and Human rights, was an external examiner for Gender and the Law.
Klein, M Independent Association of advocates of South Africa Independent Association of advocates of South Africa Masters in Insolvency law, Founder and Chairperson of the independent Bar of South Africa and experience in lecturing. He is practicing as an advocate and is the Head of LIPCO and School of Advocacy.
Manda, P National paralegal institute (NPI) and national community based paralegal association National paralegal institute (NPI) and community based paralegal association LLM, advocate of the supreme court of South Africa, lecturer in the department of criminal law, deputy dean of the faculty of law, a member of the society of law teachers and is now the director of the institute for paralegals.
Masenya, L M Committee of Technikon Principals Committee of Technikon Principals LLB, legal advisor, experience in lecturing law students and was a moderator in Mercantile Law.
Mashigo, D J Legally independent people's drive corporation Independent Association of South Africa LLB, advanced diploma in Labour Law and Corporate Law, practicing as an advocate, founder member and first president of the law student council, was admitted an advocate of the Supreme court of South Africa.
Moodley, S Saloshna Moodley and Company National Association of Democratic Lawyers LLB, principal attorney, she did articles of clerkship, did a course on Maritime Law, an executive member of NADEL, was a member of the sub committee on legal education, has been appointed as assessor in the High Court.
Mqeke, R B Rhodes University Society of Law Teachers of South Africa (SLTSA) LLD, worked as a public prosecutor, employed as lecturer at Fort Hare university, was a professor of law at UNITRA, was Head of department of Private & Customary law, was a Dean of Faculty at UNITRA, is Professor of law at Rhodes University.
Neethling, J University of South Africa: Law Faculty Rand Afrikaans University (RAU) and University of South Africa (UN ISA) LLB, experience in lecturing and Advocate of the Supreme court and Dean of Law faculty.
Nkuna, N Department of Justice: Human Resources Department of Justice Human resources management diploma, Certificate in Business Management Development and Diploma in Journalism.
Pabst, G South African School of paralegal studies South African School of paralegal studies PHD, involved in practical training in judicial work, is a lawyer, is a managing director of Pabst & Pabst and is a member and principal of paralegal college of South Africa.
Ramgobin, A S Durban Campus Law Clinic Association of Legal Aid Institutions (AULAI) Represents clinics on national and provincial bodies, director of law clinic, president of the association of university based legal aid institutions, and practicing advocate.
Tager, L A General Council of the bar of South Africa General Council of the bar of South Africa Masters of Law, Advocate of  the Supreme Court, was a Dean of Law faculty, member of the Johannesburg bar.
Van Loggerenberg, C University of Port Elizabeth University Port Elizabeth and Stellenbosch University LLB, experience in lecturing students, acting director of student services and serving a second term as full-time Dean of Law faculty
Van Riet, C Justice College Centre for Human rights LLB, Advocate of the Supreme court. She is the Chief Director of the Justice College and a member of the National Council of Lawyers for Human Rights.
Wanda, B Soweto Vista University Vista University: Law Faculty PHD, was admitted and enrolled as Legal practitioner of the High Court and Supreme Court in Malawi, was a member of the Commonwealth Law Teachers Association, was an external examiner and assessor for different institutions, was a part time lecturer for Law of Succession at Witwatersrand and he is now the Head of the department of Private Law.
Williams, N Legally independent people's corporation (LIPCO) LIPCO BLC, LLB, admitted as an advocate of the Supreme court, was head of the legal department in Pretoria. She is now the Chief Executive Officer of LIPCO.
