GENERAL NOTICE

Notice 739 of 2000

PUBLIC NOTICE BY NSB 10, PHYSICAL, MATHEMATICAL, COMPUTER AND LIFE SCIENCES, OF THE INTENTION TO REGISTER AN SGB FOR CHEMISTRY IN HIGHER EDUCATION AND TRAINING

NSB 10 wishes to establish an SGB for Chemistry in the sub-field Physical Sciences for Higher Education and Training from NQF Levels 5 through to 8.

PROPOSED BRIEF OF THE SGB

Develop reaming pathways in Chemistry, Applied Chemistry and related specialised fields from NQF Levels 5 to 8 Regulation 24(1)(e)].
Generate qualifications and standards in Chemistry in the sub-field Physical Sciences in accordance with Authority requirements at levels 5 to 8 on the NQF. The SGB will develop the following appropriate and specific standards and qualifications in Chemistry with reference to technicians technologists, analysts, chemists, scientists, researchers and chemistry educators:

National Certificate in Chemistry (Level 5)

National Diploma in Chemistry (Level 5)

First Degrees in Chemistry (Level 6)

Professional Degrees in Chemistry (Level 7)

Masters Degrees and Doctoral Degrees in Chemistry and Applied Chemistry and other related specialised fields (Level 8) [Regulation 24(1)(a)]

Recommend the qualifications and standards under 2 above to the National Standards Body 10 [Regulation 24(1)(c)].
Recommend criteria for the registration of assessors and moderators or moderating bodies Regulation 24(1)(d)].
Liase closely with other relevant SGBs in the field as well as in other organising fields in the generation of qualification and standards [Regulation 24(1)(a & e)].
