PUBLIC NOTICE BY NSB 08, LAW, MILITARY SCIENCE AND SECURITY, OF THE REGISTRATION OF AN SGB FOR SECURITY |
NSB 08 hereby registers an SGB for Security, for a period of three years, until 12 May 2003.
BRIEF OF THE SGB
Research and identify the South African requirements regarding Security standards and qualifications [Regulation 24(1)(e)].
Research, review and identify current Security standards and existing qualifications (national and international) and determine the applicability thereof to the South African requirements [Regulation 24 (1)(e)]. In particular, the following will be reviewed:
- Security Officer Grade E (Security Officers Board)
- Security Officer Grade D (Security Officers Board)
- Security Officer Grade C (Security Officers Board)
- Security Officer Grade B (Security Officers Board)
- Security Officer Grade A (Security Officers Board)
- National Certificate in Security Management
- National Higher Certificate in Security Management
- National Diploma in Security Management
- B Tech in Security Management
- M Tech in Security Management
- D Tech in Security Management
Determine those South African needs for qualifications and standards that are not addressed by current Security standards and qualifications [Regulation 24(1)(e)]
Generate the following unit standards-based qualifications, in accordance with Authority requirements:
- Certificates in Security Practices (NQF levels 1 to 4)
- Certificate in Security Management (NQF level 5)
- Diploma in Security Management (NQF level 5)
- Degree in Security Management (NQF level 6)
- Honours Degree in Security Management (NQF level 7)
- Masters Degree in Security Management (NQF level 8)
- Doctoral Degree in Security Management (NQF level 8) [Regulation 24(1)(a)]
Recommend the qualifications generated under 4, above, to the NSB [regulation 24(1)(c)].
Recommend criteria for the registration of assessors and moderators or moderating bodies [Regulation 24(1)(d)].
Update and review standards [Regulation 24(1)(b)].
Consult on a regular basis with the inter-liaison committee, which consists of representatives from the proposed SGB for Traffic, Traffic-related and Local Government Law Enforcement and the proposed SGB for Crime Prevention, and with all other SGBs in the sub-field Safety in Society [Regulation 24(1)(e)]
