SOUTH AFRICAN QUALIFICATIONS AUTHORITY

PUBLIC NOTICE BY NSB 04, COMMUNICATION STUDIES AND LANGUAGE, OF THE INTENTION TO REGISTER AN SGB FOR JOURNALISM

National Standards Body (NSB) 04, Communication Studies and Language, wishes to establish an SGB for Journalism in the sub-field of Journalism.

Practitioners in the field of Journalism wish to establish an SGB to generate qualifications and standards for all sectors of Journalism. This SGB will liase with all the relevant SGBs in the field.

PROPOSED BRIEF OF THE SGB

  1. Develop learning pathways for potential qualifications and unit standards in the sub-field for Journalism from level 1 through to level 8 ([Regulation 24(1) (e)]).

  2. Generate the qualifications and standards outlined below in accordance with Authority requirements: ([Regulations 24 (1) (a)])

  1. Recommend the qualifications and standards generated under 2, above, to the NSB ([Regulation 24 (1) (c)]).

  2. Recommend criteria for the registration of assessors and moderators or moderating bodies ([Regulation 24 (1) (d)].

  3. Perform such other tasks as may from time to time be assigned by the NSB ([Regulation 24 (1) (e)]).
