PUBLIC NOTICE BY NSB 08, LAW, MILITARY SCIENCE AND SECURITY, OF AN APPLICATION TO REGISTER AN SGB FOR TRAFFIC-, TRAFFIC RELATED- AND LOCAL GOVERNMENT LAW ENFORCEMENT

NSB 08 has received an application to recognise and register an SGB for Traffic-, Traffic related- and Local Government Law Enforcement01.

PROPOSED BRIEF OF THE SGB

  1. Research and identify current law enforcement standards and qualifications (national and international) and determine the applicability thereof to the South African requirements [Regulation 24 (1)(e)].

  2. Research and identify the South African requirements regarding law enforcement standards and qualifications [Regulation 24 (1)(e)].

  3. Determine those South African needs that are not addressed by current law enforcement standards [Regulation 24 (1)(e)].

  4. Generate the following unit standards-based qualifications, in accordance with Authority requirements [Regulation 24 (1)(a)], at NQF levels 1 to 7:

  1. Consult on a regular basis with the inter-liaison committee, which consists of representatives from, amongst others, the proposed SGB for Crime Prevention, and with all other SGBs in the sub-field Safety in Society (Regulation 24(1)(e)) in the generation of qualifications and standards.

  2. Recommend the standards and qualifications generated under 4, above, to the NSB [Regulation 24 (1)(c)].

  3. Recommend criteria for the registration of assessors and moderators or moderating bodies [Regulation 24 (1)(d)].

  4. Update and review standards and qualifications [Regulation 24 (1)(b)].

Definition of Law Enforcement:
The enforcement of legislation in terms of the Criminal Procedures Act (CPA), the Road Traffic Act, Municipal by-laws, ordinances and regulations, as required by persons appointed as Peace Officers in terms of section 334(1)(a) of the CPA and section 64 of the SAPS Act.
