SOUTH AFRICAN QUALIFICATIONS AUTHORITY

PUBLIC NOTICE BY NSB 01 AGRICULTURE AND NATURE CONSERVATION, OF AN APPLICATION TO REGISTER AN SGB FOR WOOD TECHNOLOGY: LUMBER MILLING

NSB 01 has received an application to recognise and register an SGB for Wood Technology: Lumber Milling.

PROPOSED BRIEF OF THE SGB

Develop learning pathways for potential qualifications and unit standards in the subfield Forestry and Wood Technology from level 1 through to level 8 [Regulation 24 (1) (e)].
Generate the following standards and qualifications in the sub-field, in accordance with Authority requirements, from NQF level 1 to 8 [Regulation 24(1) (a)]:

Certificate in Wood Technology: Lumber Milling in the areas of saw doctoring, green timber processing, lumber drying, lumber grading, dried lumber processing and mill maintenance (NQF levels 1 – 4)

Diploma in Wood Technology: Lumber Milling

First Degree in Wood Technology: Lumber Milling

Masters in Wood Technology: Lumber Milling

Doctorate in Forestry (Wood Science)
in the areas of saw doctoring, wet milling, lumber drying, lumber grading, dry milling (including planing and moulding), finger jointing, laminating, and lumber mill maintenance.

Recommend the qualifications and standards generated under 2 above to the NSB [Regulation 24 (1) (c)].
Recommend criteria for the registration of assessors and moderators or moderating bodies [Regulation 24 (1) (d)].
Perform such other functions as may from time to time be delegated by NSB 01 [Regulation 24 (1) (e)].
