PUBLIC NOTICE BY NSB 04, COMMUNICATION STUDIES AND LANGUAGE, OF AN APPLICATION TO REGISTER AN SGB FOR GOVERNMENT COMMUNICATIONS AND INFORMATION SYSTEMS

NSB 04 has received an application to recognise and register an SGB for Government Communications and Information systems in the sub-field of Communication Studies.

PROPOSED BRIEF OF THE SGB

  1. Develop learning pathways for potential qualifications and unit standards in the sub-field Public Service Communications Practice from level 5 through to level 8 [Regulation 24(1)(e)].

  2. Generate the following qualifications and standards in the sub-field in accordance with Authority requirements:

[Regulation 24(1)(a)].

  1. Research and assess professional competence and continuing professional development leading to renewal of professional qualifications within the Public Service Communications [Regulation 24(1)(e)].

  2. Recommend the qualifications and standards generated under 2, above, to the NSB [Regulation 24(1)(c)].

  3. Recommend criteria for the registration of assessors and moderators or moderating bodies [Regulation 24(1)(d)].

  4. Perform such other tasks as may from time to time be assigned by the NSB.

  • Nine years’ experience in the communications industry
  • Co-ordinates Media Liaison for GCIS
4. Andile Xaba Communications Director: DACST Learners
  • Several years experience as a journalist
  • Currently co-ordinates departmental communications
  • Serves on the Government Communications Forum
5. Peter Mann Chairperson: Meropa Communications Business
  • Extensive experience as a journalist
  • 10 years’ experience in public relations/communications industry
6. Piedro Diedricks Head: Department of Journalism Service Provider
  • Masters in Media Studies
  • Extensive experience as a journalist and journalism educator
